My Vision for HisCompass Ministry

hcm_colorsTwelve years ago, when I was eight, I felt Jesus was calling me to become a minister.  I began working on a prototype web project in Microsoft Word which I called “Faith in Jesus Christ Our Lord Ministries” (FIJCOLM).
My parents liked my project and my creativity, they encouraged my development of a Christian website to share the gospel online.  In 2005, when I was eleven, HisCompass Ministry was officially launched onto the internet, and for the last nine years, it has been an almost inseparable part of my identity.

Much of my creativity lately has been devoted toward this blog and to GodWord, another HisCompass Ministry website which I will discuss later.  God’s direction for HisCompass very well might be different than my vision, but the purpose behind HisCompass Ministry is to glorify God whatever it ends up being, so even if my vision does not come to fruition Jesus Christ will be glorified in it.

Recently, I spoke with one of my pastors at Antioch College Station about what God has done through the past years in HisCompass: sharing the gospel of Christ through the internet.  One thing this pastor said had a resounding impact on me.  He said, “Evan, it sounds like you are trying to start a church.”  Immediately, I felt like I was acting like Jonah, running from God’s call for my life and pursuing my way. While God may be calling me to be in Management Information Systems at this time, I definitely see myself pursuing full-time ministry as an occupation.

My vision is that HisCompass Ministry might one day become a church plant, with a congregation, and with GodWord continuing as one of its ministries.  I sincerely hope the church that could come from HisCompass will be one that effectively and creatively uses technology to bring glory to God, as HisCompass has always done.  The name for the church might not be “HisCompass Church”, or anything like that; in fact, I am okay with not being the senior pastor, if this is what God wants. I have always been protective of HisCompass out of fear of losing control of it: mostly because it has been such a big part of my life for the past nine years.

Even if this vision doesn’t come to fruition, HisCompass will still be used for God’s glory in the Internet.
